Charming San Angel

Day 5 03.31.18

Breakfast at Fonda Mayora in Condesa included Huevos gratinados y salseados en caloillo mojo sober una tortilla acompañada de frijol refrito.  Its location, just two blocks from our Airbnb apartment on Campeche, makes this an easy morning destination.

Lunch at Entremar in Polanco included Tostadas de Camarón y Sopes de Pescado Adobado.

After lunch at Entremar in Polanco, we decided to spend the afternoon in San Angel.  If you’re in Mexico City, a visit to San Angel in the south is a must.  There are a plethora of fine restaurants, boutiques, cafes, and artesania along the quaint, cobblestone roads.  Begin your day at the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo.  Although this was originally Diego Rivera’s studio, both artists spent time living and working here. Perhaps you’ve heard of their studio home that includes separate buildings, connected by a bridge.  This is that home.  It was designed by Juan O’Gorman–the architect also responsible for Rivera’s Museo Anahuacalli–a museum in Coyoacán that houses his large collection of pre-columbian artifacts.

Although we did not visit today, I’ve made several visits in the past.  The following photo was taken in the Spring of 2016.  EstudioDiego Rivera

Today we chose to explore the Bazaar San Angel–a wonderful indoor and outdoor market that explodes with energy every Saturday morning.  Countless artists display and sell paintings, handcrafted jewelry, traditional huipiles and other textiles, and myriad other Mexican artesania, or handicrafts.

Eventually, we made our way to the Iglesia San Jacinto, just a few blocks away from the main plaza.  The church grounds include a beautiful and serene garden.  I ended up going a bit overboard and shooting the following shots of my friends.
