Santo Viernes en el MUAC

Day 4 03.30.18

Can’t go wrong with Fonda Mayora.  Today’s desayuno:  Omelette de Hoja Santa, Frijol, y Salsa de Chiltomate.  Nothing wrong with that. 🙂IMG_1669 2

After breakfast Richard and Sabian headed down to the Museo de Anthropologia in the Parque Chapultepec.  The National Museum of Anthropology is a must see for anyone interested in Pre-columbian history, artifacts, and culture.  It possesses one of the, if not the most, extensive collection of archaeological and anthropological artifacts of Mexico’s pre-Columbian heritage.  I first visited this national treasure in 1995 with my University of California EAP (Educational Abroad Program) classmates at the CEPE, or Centro de Enseñaza Para Extranjeros.  And just last March I had visited the museum with my 19 year old niece and good friend, Laleña–so I opted out of their visit and instead checked out the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) on the campus of the UNAM.

The MUAC opened in 2008 in a stunning modern structure designed by Teodoro González de León, the same architect that designed the Auditorio Nacional (where I saw Bjõrk perform last year!) and the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Parque Chapultepec.

Aside from admiring the MUAC from the outside, I also thoroughly enjoyed their extensive collection of contemporary art.

Butterflies inside the MUAC

After the MUAC I met up with Richard and Sabian for a super lovely lunch at the beautiful Carlota in colonial San Angel.  I started with the Clementina: Cilantro criollo, pepino, manna verde, mezcal blanco.

Sabian loved the Huitlacoche Butter. And there’s the Clementina.

Lunch included an exquisitely prepared Ostrich Tartar and a creamy black bean soup.

We ended our meal with two shared desserts.
