Wadi Rum: A Jordanian Treasure

Wadi Rum

After dropping our bags off at the Bait Ali Camp, our lodging for the night in the Wadi Rum, we got into groups of 5 or 6 and jumped aboard different pick up trucks. The converted Flat Bed areas of their trucks supplied the sitting area. We then went on a two-hour drive through the breath taking Wadi Rum in the Jordanian desert.

Our ride through the Wadi Rum

More and more Westerners are bound to visit the Wadi Rum as it was a location site for the upcoming Star Wars film. Shooting took place in 2018 for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which has a December 2019 release date. Our jeep ride through the Wadi Rum included the precise locations of the Star Wars film site–in fact we crossed paths with an abandoned vehicle that had served as a prop in the movie.

It’s no surprise that this part of Jordan was used to represent a galaxy far far away. The Wadi Rum is truly a sight to behold–impressive rock formations, shifting colors and sand formations, and incredible sunsets that make you feel like you’re on another planet indeed.

The ride through the desert included several stops to pause and reflect on the immense, serene, and other worldly landscape.

So if your trip to the Middle East includes Petra, stay an extra day or two and visit the Wadi Rum. You won’t be disappointed.
