Why should you globalize your classroom?
- We live in an increasingly globalized environment.
- Our students need to explore the outside world–beyond the confines of LA–or whatever city or town you teach in.
- A global education = a more competitive student in the increasingly international world.
- Los Angeles is one of the world’s most diverse, and international cities–let’s take advantage of our immense resources. And GLOBALIZE our classrooms!
The Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (TGC) is a year-long professional development opportunity for United States elementary, middle and high school teachers to become leaders in global education.
Global education is integral to building 21st century skills, and teachers are the greatest resource to empower students as global citizens. Global Education is an educational perspective which arises from the fact that contemporary people live and interact in an increasingly globalised world. TGC equips fellows with the global competencies necessary to bring an international perspective to their schools.
Teaching and learning is transformed through targeted training, an international field experience, and global collaboration. TGC is a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX.
The Spring/Summer 2015 TGC Cohorts completed their international field experiences in the Republic of Georgia, India, Morocco, Brazil, or the Philippines. Prior to their International Field Experience, these educators completed a rigorous, graduate level online course and attended a Global Symposium in Washington D.C.

Upon completion of their International Field Experience, these educators produce a Capstone Project that serves as a resource for other educators interested in globalizing education.
I was one of 16 American teachers that completed their TGC experience in Brazil during the 2015 Summer. As such, I have also produced an exciting and useful tool–my online Capstone Project–that serves as a wonderful resource for teachers here and abroad interested in globalizing their classroom.
In my Online Resource Guide, educators will find numerous resources to help globalize their classroom: Assessment tools; a Global Education Unit Plan; International Project-Based Learning Opportunities; a Local Community Resource List, etc.
Explore my Resource Guide, and discover myriad other helpful tools, examples, and opportunities that will help you improve your students’ global competencies–and enrich your classroom. There are also numerous links to local, state, national and international professional growth opportunities. This Online Resource Guide is a tool that will get you started on this path towards Global Education. (NOTE: Online Resource Guide temporarily disabled. Please find out more about TGC using the LINK below.)
