Local Community Resource List
The Los Angeles World Affairs Council High School Program offers high school students the opportunity to attend Council events with the wide range of international leaders, diplomats, scientists and business executives who regularly address the Council. The students also have dedicated briefings with the speaker before the main event. The intention of the program is to open a window on the world for high school students, give them a more global outlook on current affairs, and encourage them to set high goals in their ongoing studies and career aspirations. The Center for Global Education promotes international education to foster cross-cultural awareness, cooperation and understanding. Living and working effectively in a global society requires learning with an international perspective.

The Southern California Consortium on International Studies (SOCCIS) is a voluntary association of public and private colleges and universities established in 1972 for the purpose of coordinating and sharing resources to further international studies in the southern California region. California Colleges for International Education is a consortium dedicated to the ideal of increasing international understanding through education. At present, eighty-four California community colleges are members.
California Colleges for International Education (CCIE) is a consortium established in 1984. CCIE is dedicated to the ideal of increasing international understanding through education and collaboration. The consortium helps support the growth of programs affiliated to international education: a) Faculty Exchanges; b) International Business; c) International Development/ Contract Education; d) International Students; e) Internationalizing the Curriculum; and f) Study Abroad. CCIE sponsors a Clearinghouse Webpage, annual meetings, thematic workshops, quarterly study abroad brochure, and a monthly newsletter that serve to advance these efforts. In addition, CCIE hosts an annual faculty grant/student scholarship competition in which monies are provided for staff development and student experiential learning. CCIE is the primary voice of international education in the state and is instrumental in bringing the Chancellor’s Office Global Education/International Education programs to scale system wide.

International study enables students to prepare for careers in a global, knowledge-based economy. It provides learning in languages, cultures, pedagogies, and skills for citizens of a State whose economy is highly dependent on international trade and commerce.
California ’s two- and four-year colleges and universities, both public and independent, offer outstanding opportunities for study abroad.
